There is no direct contact between the tool electrode and the workpiece, but there is a spark discharge gap, which is generally between 0.05 ~ 0.3mm, sometimes 0.5mm or even larger. The gap is filled with working fluid. During machining, the workpiece is discharged and corroded by high-voltage pulse discharge.
During roughing, the allowance shall generally not be less than 0.5mm, and the semi finishing allowance shall be between 0.15-0.25mm. During finishing, the profile surface must be finely milled to a certain number, the material level surface must have a uniform tool path, and a 0.05 ~ 0.1mm allowance shall be reserved for the small puncture position. 2. The electrode spark position is generally 0.7 ~ 1.0mm for violent work, 0.3-0.5mm for rough work and 0.1-0.15mm for precision work.
